South Bend Cubs Fall to Lansing Lugnuts, 4–1
Evan Aschenbeck delivered six strong shutout innings for the South Bend Cubs, but ran into trouble in the seventh. The Lansing Lugnuts struck for four runs in the bottom half of the inning—two of them charged to Aschenbeck—as they rallied to defeat the Cubs 4–1 at Jackson Field.
Lansing outhit South Bend 10 to 9, and the Cubs missed key chances at the plate, going just 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position and stranding nine men on base.
South Bend’s only run came in the top of the fourth, when Andy Garriola doubled home Jefferson Rojas.
The Cubs will look to bounce back in the next game of the series after letting this one slip away late.
