SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame football team has announced that Notre Dame and Brigham Young University will play at Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah in 2026, and at Notre Dame Stadium in 2027 in a home-and-home series. Specific dates and broadcast information will be announced at a later date.

The two programs have met on nine previous occasions as the Irish lead the all-time series 7-2. The series is tied at one win apiece in Provo while Notre Dame has a 5-2 advantage at home against BYU. Most recently, the Irish took a 28-20 win over the No. 16 ranked Cougars in the 2022 Shamrock Series contest at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

The Irish have been ranked on five occasions while the Cougars have been ranked once in the all-time matchups between the two teams. The teams first faced off against one another on October 24, 1992 at Notre Dame Stadium as the No. 10 Irish prevailed 42-16. Notre Dame’s first trip to Provo came on October 16, 1993 and saw the No. 3 ranked Irish win 45-20.

Notre Dame is 29-9-1 against current Big 12 teams all-time. The Irish have faced BYU more than any other current Big 12 member in the history of Notre Dame football.

This announcement comes after a report by Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports that the Irish and USC failed to reach an agreement to extend their series.

From Dellenger’s report, this stands out:

However, USC officials determined that the game date was not ideal considering past decisions from the CFP selection committee in punishing schools for losses, especially those late in the season.

The 2026 football schedule includes neutral-site games against Wisconsin at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI and Navy at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA. Home games include Rice, Michigan State, Miami, Boston College, SMU and Stanford. In addition to BYU, Notre Dame will play Purdue, North Carolina and Syracuse on the road.

Administrators from USC and Notre Dame plan to work towards restarting the series as soon as 2030.
