
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Former Notre Dame head coach and College Football Hall of Famer Lou Holtz has entered hospice care. The news was first reported by Kyle Sutherland with On3 and Rivals. A source close to the family confirmed the news to ABC57.

Holtz, 89, coached the Fighting Irish from 1986 to 1996, winning 100 games at Notre Dame. His 1988 team was his most successful, going 12-0 and winning the national championship. That’s the program’s most recent title. His 100 wins ranks third in program history.
Holtz was also a head coach at South Carolina, North Carolina State, Arkansas, Minnesota, William & Mary and with the NFL’s New York Jets. His collegiate coaching record was 249-132-7. He was 3-10 with the Jets.
